Porro prism monoculars and binoculars have considerable optical advantages over contemporary roof prism optics. Of course, the best roof prism optics are perfectly good, and employ modern technologies that give them some advantages over an old Zeiss porro like this one. But in terms of raw sharpness and resolution, this is right up there with the best. And the durabilty is second to none, thanks the scrupulous quality controls at Zeiss, particularly during the golden age of Zeiss when they were the acknowledged best without peer. In porro prisms, there is simply no need for prism silvers such as Swarobright or HighLux HLS because of total internal reflection.

All the surfaces are inclined precisely 45 degrees to the light path, and ALL, not some, of the light is reflected internally with no need of silvering whatsoever. The silver is something used in a roof prism where light hits a "roof" at an obtuse angle, and would largely escape without the silver to force it to bounce back.
