Pair of Victorian-Era miniature portraits of a husband and wife. These were my Quaker great, great grandparents. This listing is for both portraits together in their respective leather cases.
According to other listings, these portraits were often painted on bone, encased in brass frames and carried in a leather bound, silk and velvet lined presentation case. The saddle leather cases have a pull out stand to be displayed on a table, or the medallions can be removed and hung on the wall. As there is no way to open the oval brass frames, I cannot tell you what material they are painted on. There is no signature, no makers marking anywhere. Condition of both the medallions and the cases is outstanding. The cases are solid with some nicks to the cognac saddle leather, they open and close well, the gilt embossing is very much in tact.Inside the cases, the silk lining is perfect and the velvet nap is full. The framed paintings measure 3/5" x 2.5" and the cases are 4 1/2 " x 5 1/2". Feel free to message me with any questions. This item is in the category "Antiques\Other Antiques".
