SUPER RARE 1/2 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE - BOY HOLDING TAMBOURINE - IN NICE FULL CASE - This amazing half plate daguerreotype was published before in one of the issues of Daguerreian Society Annuals. The tambourine in the young boy's hand immediately grabs your attention and rightly so, as this is the only daguerreotype I have ever seen in private collection or in a museum containing this particular musical instrument. I might add, the young fella was a rather handsome boy for his age. His hairstyle in keeping with the fashion of the era. There is a good chance someone might recognize the tablecloth and identify this operator of this image at some point.
The half plate resides in a wonderful leather case with a gorgeous velvet pillow. I'm sure any collector of music related imagery would love to add this example to their collection. Good luck to my winner and next caretaker of this image with extremely rare content.
CONDITION : Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The image was resealed and a new sheet of glass added prior to my acquiring this plate. The image has nice contrast, tonal range and excellent sharpness.
There are some obvious condition issues along the edges of the plate and a few areas with spotting. The case has the original leather hinge, both the working clasps and a bold velvet pillow with an urn pressed into the center.
Needless to say, this special half plate with extremely rare musical content. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Photographic Images\Photographs".
