Original WW1 British Army Officers Verners Pattern MkVIII Compass & Leather Case. Genuine period compass & leather case as used by officers and other ranks who required a compass in the field during the First World War.
The compass is the Verners pattern MkVIII variant with mother of pearl dial and arm on the lid to automatically operate the transit lock when closed. The compass is in good original condition with the hinged lid and sight fully operational, all glass components are undamaged. And dial transit lock are in working order. The only defect being some of the black dial has peeled (see pictures) however, not detract from the compasses overall appearance.
T he compass points north, however due to its age I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. The bottom of the compass is manufacture stamped S. Mordan & Co, government issue broad arrow, serial No. The leather case is manufacture stamped R.
