I'm sure I don't need to sell anyone on the cult appeal of these original Trinovid BA/BN series models. I also have a pair of Ultravid 8x32 HD and the BA has the exact same view, just not as clear and bright (because of advances in glass and coatings). But in terms of sharpness, size of sweet spot (almost edge to edge), and outstanding aberration control they are equal. It includes the original leather Leica case and strap, as well as a more modern Leica strap (the cushy high end one you'd get with an Ultravid HD) because, let's be honest, neck strap comfort technology wasn't exactly at its peak 20+ years ago... In terms of physical condition, the mechanical operation is still smooth and the optics still sweet.
The central hinge tension is nice and tight, the focus knob turns smoothly, the diopter adjustment clicks out and in easily and works precisely, and the eyecups push in and retract and hold their position when extended. I'm not going to BS anyone, they look well used. The previous owner clearly took them on some adventures, but thankfully the reputation of the Trinovids being among the most bullet-proof binoculars ever built is well earned, and these still operate smoothly and are perfectly collimated. The body shows minor signs of use, with a few rub marks and light chips or scuffs, but it's in remarkably clean shape for how much use they've gotten in their 20 years of life!Check those photos to see what youre getting! The glass has some flaws. The objective lens coatings are still in great shape just a few very light scratches that you won't see without close inspection. The ocular (eye) lens coatings however have significant micro-scratch marks, presumably from the previous owner cleaning them a zillion times.
These micro-scratches appear to be just on the outermost layer of the multi-coating, as they are only visible from certain angles and are invisible from others. There is also a bit of dust in the interior elements, however none of this impacts the actual view when you are looking through the binoculars. Please look at the photos closely to see exactly what you are getting! I took extremely clear, sharp, close-up photos of the body and glass so you can see every flaw!
To be honest the photos make it look worse than it is, especially the one of the ocular lenses that is angled so you really see the micro scratches on the surface. But, as you can see from the photos of other angles, it looks clear and clean when you actually look through them. You will get exactly what you see in the photos!
