LEICA 80mm F1.4 SUMMILUX-R PROTOTYPE. The pre-production prototype status is confirmed by the serial number, which starts with "178" whereas all others begin with a 3. Condition details (and see recent photos).Cosmetically: 9/10 Only slight signs of exterior use or wear. Optically: 9/10 Without scratches, haze, fog, fungus, separation or oil on the blades. Normal micro-dusts are visible and some of the interior black paint appears to have cracked (paint only), neither of which stand out or affect performance. Mechanically: 9/10 Focus is smooth and consistent. Aperture, iris and built-in hood work very well.
Remarks: This prototype is extremely rare and collectible yet also in great working condition. A rare find for the Leica collector, or experienced user looking for a unique hi-speed vintage lens. The colors/coatings from this pre-production unit should produce an image more reminiscent of the 1970s than other 80/1.4s, since this was likely made in the late 1970s, whereas official production did not begin until 1980. Compatible with many Leica bodies and most 3rd party cameras through inexpensive adapters including mirrorless, SLRs and motion camera systems i. Sony, Canon, Red, Alexa, BMD, etc. See my other Leica Lenses. The item "Leica 80mm F1.4 SUMMILUX-R PROTOTYPE #1714807 PRE-PRODUCTION UNIT" is in sale since Monday, April 1, 2019.
