The hat is in extraordinary, nearly unscathed overall antique condition, with nary a scratch, abrasion, scuff, noticeable signs of wear, stretching, loss, stains or other damage, often seen with these period beaver fur top hats. The original handled leather carrying case with molded, burgundy lined, upholstered satin interior has some unfortunate damage to its exterior shell, in the form of some loss, crackling and crazing of the leather, most likely caused by previous exposure to moisture and then extreme fluctuations in heat and cold. The front brass clasp also doesn't open and close or at least latch in the clasped, depressed, closed position. The brass key found tied to the handle of the carrying case also doesn't seem to spring the lock open. No attempt has been made to force the issue but the brass key fits into the key hole of the front clasp and appears to be the original brass key for the carrying case. The top hat is however, flawless and the original leather carrying case, while having distressed leather in places, most notably on one short sidewall, still has a great look and classic period styling.
It's untouched and estate fresh. Imagine this antique period ensemble in your library or parlor. Beaver Fur Top Hat: Very Good-Excellent antique condition.
