Rare early 19th or late 18th Century simple microscope sometimes referred to as a compass or flower microscope. Can be completely disassembled to be packed into the beautiful leather pigskin? The forceps can be pressed together to open and then will clamp the specimen whilst viewing. The spike is a bit narrow for the hole so requires a shim of paper or metal to stop from moving. Paper shim will be included.Focus is acheived by moving the spike holder closer or further away from the lens. Main magnifying section is made of brass. Handle is bone or similar.
Forceps are blued steel and brass. The leather case is of exceptionally quality, often these are simple paper, which suggests that this was a more expensive model than usual.
Microscope measures approximately 115mm long when assembled. The item is in exceptional condition given the age, the handle has visible crack lines but this is very common and the integrity of the handle is intact. Please view photos for condition. Thanks for looking be sure to check my other items from time to time as ill be listing lots of scientific and optical items from my collection.
